The escalating climate crisis demands urgent and decisive action. That’s why we at Rethink Carbon are have secured funding and are working hand-in-hand with the IUCN UK Peatland Programme and Scottish Forestry on the development of our groundbreaking AI platform, Rethink Codes.
Our innovative tool is set to redefine the landscape of the UK’s voluntary carbon markets, by building a solution that streamlines the complex administration of Peatland Code and Woodland Carbon Code projects. Supported by Scottish Government and Defra, our mission was born from the Scottish Government’s CivTech programme, an initiative that accelerates the pace of technology uptake across the country, cutting through the red tape.
The UK has ambitious and essential targets: restoring two million hectares of peatland and planting an additional 1.5 million hectares of woodland. Meeting these goals requires a monumental effort, and the current administrative burden is a significant roadblock for the voluntary carbon code experts.
Rethink Codes
This isn’t just another piece of software, it’s a dynamic, intelligent platform designed to be the central nervous system for carbon projects. By utilising AI, Rethink Codes will automate repetitive tasks, enhance the accuracy of carbon measurement, and provide predictive insights. We’re removing the “grudge work,” freeing up the teams at the IUCN UK Peatland Programme and Scottish Forestry to focus on what they do best: driving forward critical restoration and afforestation projects.
And the journey doesn’t stop there. Alongside supporting the voluntary carbon code administrators, we aim to empower project developers with a seamless, intuitive platform that makes validating, monitoring, and verifying their projects faster and more efficient. That’s why we are architecting Rethink Codes for scalability, ready to facilitate other emerging standards such as the saltmarsh code and ecosystem restoration code. We believe that by creating a universal, intelligent framework, we can create a more connected, efficient, and trusted voluntary carbon market for all forms of natural capital.
