Rethink Carbon Selected for CivTech 10.6 Accelerator Stage!
Rethink Carbon are thrilled to announce our selection for the CivTech 10.6 Accelerator Programme!
This prestigious programme represents a fantastic opportunity for us to further develop our innovative platform and contribute to streamlining and enhancing the administration, measurement, and prediction of carbon for the Woodland Carbon Code and Peatland Code – the UK’s leading voluntary carbon markets.
Check out our 5 minute video below, capturing our thoughts on this Accelerator journey.
What is CivTech Scotland?
CivTech is a Scottish Government programme designed to drive innovation in the public sector. It connects public sector organisations with innovative businesses to develop solutions for real-world challenges that improve people’s lives. CivTech are now in Round 10, and we are delighted to be selected amongst such a strong field of applicants.
The Challenge
Challenge 10.6, sponsored by the esteemed Scottish Forestry and UK International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN Peatland Programme), focuses on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of administering, measuring, and predicting carbon performance in Woodland Carbon Code and Peatland Code projects.
The Sponsors set this challenge to address the significant growing demand for robust voluntary carbon market schemes and the associated administrative burdens, particularly with net-zero targets becoming increasingly critical.
Ultimately, Challenge success will mean improved functionality and efficiency in how carbon sequestration and emissions reduction are predicted and monitored, reduced costs for all involved, and timely, cost-effective information for decision-making.
Our Solution
Over 15 weeks, we will be working closely with the Challenge Sponsors to develop and demonstrate an innovative MVP. Our solution lies in creating a powerful platform tool designed to automate and simplify carbon project management, building upon our existing Rethink Platform. Our research revealed significant pain points in the current system, which we will address through a user-friendly interface, data collection and analysis capabilities, mapping tools, project planning features, integrated Code calculations, and stakeholder collaboration functionalities – facilitated through clever integration of AI. We are confident that this platform offers a significant step forward for the carbon market.
We're going to automate all the grudge work that means you don't want to get up on a Monday morning.

Collaboration & innovation
We’re committed to collaboration and open innovation. We will be working with other successful Challenge Teams, including the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (UKCEH) and Sylvera, to integrate their expertise in instrumentation monitoring and carbon data modelling, creating a truly comprehensive system for the Codes. With this, we are looking to integrate satellite imagery, aerial photography, and IoT sensor data with machine learning to provide timely, cost-effective insights for informed decision-making, carbon calculation predictions, risk assessment, and verification efficiency.
Stay in the loop!
We’re incredibly excited and grateful to be part of the CivTech 10.6 Accelerator Programme. We are confident that our innovative platform will significantly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the UK’s voluntary carbon markets, contributing to Scotland’s net-zero targets and driving positive change in the fight against climate change.
